Area of investigation definition

Area of investigation means (i) with respect to a vertical well or the vertical portion of a horizontal well, a circular area formed by projecting a radius the required distance from the center of the well and (ii) with respect to the horizontal portion of a horizontal well, the combination of (a) a rectangular area formed by projecting a line the required distance perpendicular to, and on both sides of, the entire perforated section of the horizontal borehole plus (b) two semi-circular areas, the first formed by projecting a radius the required distance from the beginning point of the perforated section of the horizontal borehole, and the second formed by projecting a radius the required distance from the ending point of the perforated section of the horizontal borehole.
