Care bundles. ’ have been advocated as a means to accelerate the adoption of multiple care processes into routine clinical prac- tice, benchmark performance, and improve patient outcomes. A bundle is ‘‘a structured way of improving care processes and patient outcomes: a small, straightforward set of evidence- based practices—generally three to five—that, when performed collectively and reliably, have been proven to improve patient outcomes.’’8 The concept of ‘‘bundling’’ therapies has been applied to the management and prevention of complex condi- tions such as central line infections, ventilator-associated pneu- monia, and sepsis to help clinicians reliably deliver evidence- based processes of care. Studies examining use of care bundles for these conditions have shown improvements in the delivery of care processes and outcomes.9-12
