Cocurricular activities definition

Cocurricular activities means those portions of the school-sponsored and school-directed activities designed to provide opportunities for students to participate in such experiences on an individual basis or in groups, at school and at public events, for improvement of skills (i.e., interscholastic sports, pep band). Cocurricular activities are not offered for school credit, cannot be counted toward graduation, and have one or more of the following characteristics:

  • Co-curricular activities requiring significant additional time, effort and responsibility are designated herein and amounts of additional compensation shall be in accord with the following schedule.

  • Co-curricular activities of teachers (e.g. coaching, sponsorships, and other such activities) shall not be considered as justification for absence without prior approval of the superintendent.

  • Co-curricular activities are part of that experience, and these students are to be afforded the opportunity to participate if at all possible.

  • Co-curricular activities will be operated under the current financial arrangements used by the Spartan program.

  • Co-curricular activities are offered as credit classes and supplement the regular instructional program.

  • Co-curricular activities are school sponsored activities, under the guidance and supervision of the local educational agency (LEA) staff, designed to provide students with such experiences as motivation, enjoyment, and improvement of skills.

  • Co-curricular activities are an essential extension of the curriculum.

  • Co-curricular activities will be those that the Board or its representatives assign to a teacher beyond his/her normal teaching assignment.

  • Time spent performing Co-curricular activities does not form part of the 38 hour week.

  • Co-curricular activities which the BOARD offers are not considered part of a teacher’s normal duties and responsibilities.
