Emergent curriculum definition

Emergent curriculum means a teaching philosophy and a curricu- lum planning method designed to create meaningful learning experiences that focus on being responsive to child interests. This philosophy prioritizes active participation, relationship building, flexible and adaptable methods, inquiry, and play-based learning. The curriculum is child-initiated, collaborative and responsive to the child's needs, and teachers come prepared with information, offer resources to sup- port child explorations, or both.
