Extended Illness definition

Extended Illness means more than three (3) consecutive workdays, including the day on which the holiday is celebrated, of injury leave, sick leave and/or disability leave.

  • Employees shall accrue forty-eight (48) hours per year (prorated for part-time employees) into the Extended Illness Bank (EIB) for use in the event of extended illness.

  • Extended Illness Leave, hereinafter referred to as “EIL” shall be established for certified/licensed personnel who are absent due to their own personal illness or injury following the exhaustion of their accumulated illness and annual allotment of short term leave.

Extended illness leave is not a right which an employee may use at the employee's discretion. Extended illness leave shall be allowed by the EMPLOYER only in the case of verified necessity and actual need. The purpose of any extended illness leave is to provide income continuation during that period of time when the employee is unable to perform substantially all of the duties of a position which the employee holds.
