Grocery store and supermarket definition
Grocery store and supermarket means a retail business where the majority of the floor area that is open and accessible to the public is occupied by produce, food and beverage products, and household items that are packaged for preparation and consumption for daily living needs. Grocery stores and supermarkets are distinguished from “convenience stores” in that they typically contain a retail floor area greater than 10,000 gross square feet. Smaller grocery stores may occupy a retail floor area between 5,000 and 10,000 gross square feet. Supermarkets generally offer a greater variety of products and household items, and may also include accessory uses within the retail sales area including, but not limited to, a pharmacy, café, or financial services.
