INTENSIVE CARE definition

INTENSIVE CARE means an Injury or Sickness has resulted in the life insured requiring continuous mechanical ventilation by means of tracheal intubation for ten consecutive days (24 hours per day) in an authorised intensive care unit of an acute care hospital. Excluded from this definition is Intensive Care as a result of medically induced coma.
INTENSIVE CARE. UNIT shall mean a section within the Hospital which is designated as an Intensive Care Unit by the Hospital, and which is maintained on a twenty-four (24) hour basis solely for treatment of patients in critical condition and is equipped to provide special nursing and medical services not available elsewhere in the Hospital.
INTENSIVE CARE unit means an identified section, xxxx or wing of a hospital which is under the constant supervision of a dedicated Medical Practitioner(s), and which is specially equipped for the continuous monitoring and treatment of patients who are in a critical condition, or require life support facilities and where the level of care and supervision is considerably more sophisticated and intensive than in the ordinary and other wards.

More Definitions of INTENSIVE CARE

INTENSIVE CARE means (1) a specifically designated facility of the Hospital that provides the highest level of medical care; and (2) which is restricted to those patients who are critically ill or injured. Such facility must be separate and apart from the surgical recovery room and from rooms, beds and wards customarily used for patient confinement.
