ISPS Code The International Ship and Port Facility Security Code.
Under Regulation (EC) 725/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 31 March 2004 on enhancing ship and port facility security (“the EU Regulation”) certain provisions of the International Maritime Organization’s International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) 1974 (as amended by the addition of a new Chapter XI-2) and of the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (“the ISPS Code”) were incorporated into EU law.
ISPS CODE The International Ship and Port Facility Security Code.
ISPS Code means the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code forming part of the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention of the International Maritime Organisation.
The IMO has adopted as part of the international, mandatory “Safety of Life at Sea Convention (SOLAS)”, an international, mandatory code for the security of ships and port facilities, the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code' (ISPS-Code).
The Regulation is also intended to provide a basis for the harmonised interpretation and implementation and Community monitoring of the special measures to enhance maritime security adopted by the Diplomatic Conference of the IMO on 12 December 2002, which amended the 1974 International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS Convention) and established the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code).
Such restrictions may affect any vessel which does not in the opinion of the Harbour Master or other relevant person meet the requirements of the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code).
Notes: The International Ship and Port Facility Security Code came into force on 1st July 2004.
While standing in port, the ship shall fulfill all requirements of the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code) according to the security plan of the port facility and the ship.
Any requirements of the Port’s security designation under the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS) for protection categories “Other Bulk Cargoes” (OBC) and “Chemical, Oil, Gas” (COG).
