Log reduction definition

Log reduction means the reduction in the concentration of infective pathogens or surrogate parameters through a treatment process expressed in log10 units. For example, a 1-log reduction equates to 90-percent removal, 2-log reduction to 99-percent removal, and 3-log reduction to 99.9-percent removal.
Log reduction means the base 10 logarithm of the ratio of raw water concentrations divided by the treated water concentration of total (or viable) Giardia cysts or viruses;
Log reduction means a reduction in the concentration of a constituent or microorganism by a factor of 10. For example, a 1-log reduction would correspond to a reduction of 90 percent from the original concentration. A 2-log reduction corresponds to a reduction of 99 percent from the original concentration.

More Definitions of Log reduction

Log reduction means the logarithm base 10 of the ratio of the levels of a pathogenic organism or other contaminant
Log reduction means the logarithm base 10 of the ratio of the levels of a pathogenic organism or other contaminant before and after treatment. A reduction in the concentration of a contaminant or microorganism by a factor of 10. For example, 1 log reduction corresponds to a 90-percent reduction from the original concentration.
Log reduction means the removal of organisms expressed on a logarithmic scale. For example, a 99.9% is a 3-log removal; whereas a 99.99% is a 4-log removal.
Log reduction means the base 10 logarithm of the ratio of raw water concentrations divided by the treated water concentration of total viruses;
Log reduction means the removal of organisms expressed on a logarithmic scale. For
Log reduction means a reduction of a factor of 10. A single log reduction means to reduce the concentration by a factor of 10 (i.e. 100 reduces to 10). A two log reduction is to reduce the concentration by a factor of 100 (i.e. 1,000 reduces to 10). A three log reduction is to reduce the concentration by a factor of 1,000 (i.e. 10,000 reduces to 10). And so on.
