Low NOx burner definition

Low NOx burner means, for the purpose of 35 Ill. Adm. Code 217, Subpart T, a type of cement kiln burner system designed to lower NOx formation by controlling flame turbulence, delaying fuel/air mixing and establishing fuel-rich zones for initial combusting, which for firing of solid fuel by a kiln's main burner includes an indirect firing system or comparable technique for the main burner to lower the amount of primary combustion air supplied with the pulverized fuel. In an indirect firing system, one air stream is used to convey pulverized fuel from the grinding equipment and another air stream is used to supply primary combustion air to the kiln burner with the pulverized fuel, with intermediate storage of the fuel. In contrast, in a direct firing system, the air stream used to convey pulverized coal is then directly used as primary combustion air without any intermediate storage of fuel, resulting in more primary combustion air than with an indirect system.
Low NOx burner means a burner designed to reduce flame turbulence by the mixing of fuel and air and by establishing fuel-rich zones for initial combustion, thereby reducing the formation of NOx.
Low NOx burner means a commercially available modified combustion burner designed to minimize NOx formation through low excess air firing, controlled mixing of primary combustion air and fuel (staged air or staged fuel), reducing peak furnace temperature or other burner designs judged to be low NOx burners by the Director and EPA based on a review of evidence submitted by the subject stationary source.

More Definitions of Low NOx burner

Low NOx burner or “LNB” means commercially available combustion modification technology that minimizes NOx formation by introducing coal and combusting air into a boiler such that initial combustion occurs in a manner that promotes rapid coal devolatilization in a fuel-rich (i.e. oxygen deficient) environment and introduces additional air to achieve a final fuel-lean (i.e. oxygen rich) environment to complete the combustion processes.
Low NOx burner means a burner used in combustion equipment that is designed to reduce flame turbulence by delaying the mixing of fuel and air and by establishing fuel-rich zones for initial combustion. In the context of cement kilns, low-NOx burner means a type of cement kiln burner for the purpose of reducing NOx emissions that has a series of channels or orifices that: (1) allow for the adjustment of the volume, velocity, pressure, and direction of the air carrying the fuel (known as primary air) and the combustion air (known as secondary air) into the kiln and (2) impart high momentum and turbulence to the fuel stream to facilitate the mixing of the fuel and secondary air. To reduce the amount of primary air used by the low NOx burner, an indirect firing system must be used with the low NOx burner. The indirect firing system: (1) separates the powdered fuel from the air stream that carried the fuel from the drying/milling equipment, (2) stores the fuel briefly, and (3) uses an independent, significantly smaller stream of hot primary air to blow the fuel to the burner.
Low NOx burner means a control technology involving a burner design which optimizes staged combustion within the flame zone of a burner to minimize NOx formation, to produce a stable flame in a boiler, and to reduce NOx emissions to the atmosphere.
