Mandatory referendum definition
Mandatory referendum means that a proposition must be submitted to the voters of the town to approve or disapprove the local law providing for term extension. The proposition must be submitted at the biennial town election or at any general election held at least 60 days after the adoption of the local law, or at a special election to be held at least 60 days after the adoption of the local law if the local law itself provides for a special election or a petition is filed requesting that the local law be submitted to a special election.
