Trainers who teach any of the above training subjects shall have satisfactorily completed a train- ing course for teaching the subjects they are expected to teach, such as the courses offered by the U.S. National Fire Academy, or they shall have the training and/or academic credentials and instructional experience necessary to demonstrate competent instruc- tional skills and a good command of the subject matter of the courses they are to teach.
The District shall allow its employees time off without loss of benefits to attend fire service related classes sponsored by the National Fire Academy and the California State Fire Academy when approved by the Fire Chief.
Employees assigned or detailed to specialized training, i.e., HazMat, National Fire Academy, E.M.T., etc., shall not lose any of their standard rate of pay, i.e., F.L.S.A. overtime, as per their regular assignment.
Eligible programs include: College curriculum classes required to complete an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree, both online and traditional format; National Fire Academy classes; State Fire Marshal classes; NWCG/CCIICS classes; FEMA classes; Marin County Fire Chief Association classes; and those classes authorized and approved by the educational committee.
The City of Warwick further agrees to grant each student that attends the National Fire Academy a sum of money to cover all fees, meals and travel expenses to and from the National Fire Academy.
The Ohio Fire Academy and/or the National Fire Academy approved courses are acceptable for purposes of this Article.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Prior to appointment, candidates for the position of Fire Chief must have attained a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration (National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program preferred).
The City of Warwick agrees to allow at least four (4) members of the firefighting force (i.e. those employees assigned to actual fire fighting duties time off with pay to attend the National Fire Academy for a period not to exceed seven (7)days.
An employee earning an Executive Fire Officer Certificate from the National Fire Academy shall receive four percent (4%) of base biweekly pay.
