An Officer is defined as a sworn member of the Natural Resources Police from the time he/she has graduated from the Natural Resources Police Academy until the time that he/she is promoted to the rank of Officer First Class.
An Officer First Class is defined as a sworn member of the Natural Resources Police who has completed one year of employment as a commissioned natural resources law enforcement officer with the Natural Resources Police and has been promoted to this rank by the Colonel or Superintendent.
For each rank of police officer in the bargaining unit, there is established a pay grade containing fifteen (15) pay rates (steps) ranging from Step 0 through Step 14: Police Officer - L01; Police Officer First Class - L02; Police Corporal - L03; Police Sergeant - L04; and, Police Lieutenant - L05.
Police Officer First Class promotional examinations shall be given on odd numbered years.
Upon promotion to the rank of Police Officer First Class or Police Corporal, an employee's salary rate shall be increased to that of the corresponding pay step for the promotional grade (that is, an increase equivalent to two (2) three and one-half percent (3.5%) steps).
After the year of promotion, for each full calendar year in which an officer holds the rank of Police Officer First Class, the officer will be paid a bonus of $1,000 no later than the first pay period of September.
There shall not be any grade change associated with employee’s designation as Police Officer First Class.
Effective July 1, 1987 the Town shall take the necessary steps to establish the rank of Patrol Officer First Class (PFC) based on a written examination process to be conducted annually during the first week of January for all candidates eligible during the calendar year.
The Police Officer First Class would be subject to layoff as outlined in Section 3 of this Article.
INPRS pay is based on the salary of an Officer First Class plus five thousand dollars ($5,000).
