Redoximorphic features definition

Redoximorphic features means a color pattern of a horizon or horizon subdivision due to a loss (depletion) or gain (concentration) of pigment compared to the matrix color, formed by oxidation/reduction of iron (Fe) coupled with its removal, translocation, or accrual; or a soil matrix color controlled by the presence of Fe+2 (see Field Book for Describing and Sampling of Soils, NRCS, USDA which is hereby incorporated by reference, including any subsequent amendments and editions, in accordance with G.S. 150B-21.6).
Redoximorphic features means characteristic soil patterns formed by the reduction, translocation and oxidation of iron and manganese oxides. The occurrence of these features may be indicative of seasonal or perennial saturation in some part or the entire soil matrix.
Redoximorphic features means a color pattern of a horizon due to a depletion or concentration of pigment compared to the matrix color, formed by oxidation and reduction of Fe coupled with its removal, translocation, or accrual, or a soil matrix color controlled by the presence of Fe+2. Redox depletions are a type of redoximorphic feature.

Examples of Redoximorphic features in a sentence

  • Redoximorphic features often indicate the intermittent presence of ground water and may indicate poor aeration and impeded drainage.

  • Redoximorphic features include iron nodules and mottles that form in seasonally saturated soils by the reduction, translocation, and oxidation of iron and manganese oxides (USEPA 2002).

  • Redoximorphic features in soil largely result from oxidation- reduction reactions that are biochemically mediated and therefore do not occur in soils with low amounts of organic carbon, high pH (more than 7 standard pH units), low soil temperatures, or low amounts of iron, or where the groundwater is aerated.

  • Redoximorphic features that are observed in the soil profile but are not indicative of contemporary seasonal water table levels.

  • Redoximorphic features are not expected to occur unless the horizon has been both saturated and anoxic conditions have led to reduction of iron and manganese.

More Definitions of Redoximorphic features

Redoximorphic features means characteristic soil patterns formed by the reduction, translocation and oxidation of iron and manganese oxides. The occurrence of these features may be indicative of poor drainage, or lack of aeration associated with the upper most extent of the seasonal high water table.
Redoximorphic features means a color pattern of a horizon due to a loss (depletion) or gain
Redoximorphic features means features formed by the process of reduction, translocation, and/or oxidation of Iron (Fe) and Manganese (Mn) oxides, caused by active fluctuating seasonal soil water table. Redoximorphic features were formerly known as “Mottles”.
Redoximorphic features means a color pattern of a horizon due to a depletion or concentration of
Redoximorphic features means mottling of soil and is identified by the presence of oxidized and reduced states of iron in the same ped.
Redoximorphic features or "mottling" means soil properties associated with wetness that results from the reduction and oxidation of iron and manganese compounds in the soil after saturation and desaturation with water.
Redoximorphic features means a type of mottling that is associated with periodic moisture in a soil.
