Renewable Identification Number definition

Renewable Identification Number means a thirty-eight (38) character numeric code that is generated by the producer or importer of renewable fuel representing gallons of renewable fuel produced/imported and assigned to batches of renewable fuel that are transferred to others such that a change of ownership is effected, or any similar successor instrument thereof.
Renewable Identification Number or “RIN” (or equivalent) assigned to a batch of bio-fuel made from the biogas for the purpose of tracking its production, use, and trading as defined by the “Renewable Fuel Standard” or “RFS” (or equivalent) of the UNITED STATES ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY, a federal public agency, implemented according to the Energy Policy Act of 2005 or under any other similar Law or voluntary program; and, (ii) any “Low Carbon Fuels Standard” or “LCFS” emission credits (or equivalent) as defined by Low Carbon Fuel Standard Program pf the CALIFORNIA AIR RESOURCE BOARD, a California public entity, pursuant to the California Assembly Bill AB 32 and the Governor’s Executive Order S-01-07 or any variant of that standard or under any other similar Law or voluntary program; and,
Renewable Identification Number means one of the mechanisms established to allow obligated parties to demonstrate compliance with renewable fuel volume obligations established under the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (Public Law 109-58) and the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (Public Law 110-140). A renewable identification number is assigned to a unit of renewable fuel for purposes of tracking its production and use. Once the unit of fuel is consumed, the renewable identification number can be used to satisfy renewable fuel obligations and can be sold or traded to obligated parties to satisfy their renewable fuel obligations in current or future years.
