Same Sex Spouse definition
Same Sex Spouse. – means an individual of the same sex who is legally married to the Participant, under the laws of the jurisdiction in which the marriage was performed or occurred.
Same Sex Spouse means in relation to a Member the person to whom a Member is legally married in accordance with the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act 2013.
Same Sex Spouse means a person who is legally married to someone of the same sex. For the avoidance of doubt it shall include a party to a Civil Partnership which has been converted into a same sex marriage.

Before August 1, 2013, a same-sex spouse is an individual in a relationship with the eligible person that would have caused the individual to satisfy the eligibility requirements to receive spousal benefits under the basic plan or coordinated plan of the St. Paul Teachers Retirement Fund Association had the individual and eligible person been permitted to marry under state law.
