Storage length definition

Storage length means additional lane length added to a deceleration lane to store the maximum number of vehicles likely to accumulate in the lane during a peak hour period to prevent stored vehicles from interfering with the function of the deceleration lane or the through travel lanes.

Examples of Storage length in a sentence

  • Storage length will be determined from the applicable traffic study.

  • For example, 250 vph turning during the peak hour in the horizon year would require a 250 foot turn lane.• Storage length can also be computed using the following equation: Storage Length = (h / s) (v + g) (p)h = horizon year peak hour volume (vph)s = number of signal cycles per hourA signal cycle is typically 60 – 120 seconds.

  • Queue Storage length calculated as per Transportation Research Record (TRR) 1500, Lengths of Left-TurnLanes at Unsignalized Intersections, p.193.a. The required space for the first vehicle in the queue is 15 ft because no buffer zone is needed between thefirst car and the stop line.b. Proportion of Heavy Vehicles (%) = 5%c.

  • Storage length of acceleration and deceleration lanes should be in accordance with the appropriate standards.

  • Storage length design requires the review and concurrence of the Caltrans District Traffic Operations Branch responsible for ramp metering.

  • For signal controlled intersections: Storage length = 2 x (vehicles/hour)/(cycles/hour) x 25 feet For non-signal controlled intersections:Vehicles/2 min period = (vehicles/hour)/(30 periods/hour) Storage length = (vehicles/hour)/(30 periods/hour) x 25 feetAll results should be rounded up to the nearest 25 foot interval.

  • Storage length shall be measured in “track feet” and number of cars per track as measured between the fourteen (14) foot clearancepoint or point of derail or end of track device.

  • Storage length data are used to determine potential blockage problems.

  • Storage length, as shown in Figure 15.08.04, is an important design element that ensures the provision of sufficient turn lane storage capacity to reduce instances of spillback.

  • TABLE II-8MINIMUM DRIVEWAY STORAGE LENGTH (L)(See Figure II-4) * Storage length is defined as the distance between the street right-of-way line and the first intersecting aisleway on the side.IV.
