Structured data definition

Structured data means data that conforms to a data model, has a well-defined structure, follow a consistent order, and can be accessed and used by a computer program. For purposes of illustration only: machine generated data, event logs, database records.
Structured data means data that resides in a fixed field within a record or file, or stored in a structured format, such as databases (such as Oracle, SQL, Access) or data sets, according to specific form and content rules as defined by each field of the database.
Structured data means that the data can be accessed and manipulated directly by computer programs without human intervention. In this form, information adheres to a well-defined model. Structured information may be quantitative (such as structural analysis data), descriptive (such as finishes or coatings) or graphical (such as schematic diagrams, scaled drawings or 3D CAD models). This information form allows for automated—and therefore cost effective—search, retrieval and update, while maintaining the intelligent information content.

Examples of Structured data in a sentence

  • Structured data permits the interpretation of its content by virtue of atomic elements that are understandable by an application and indivisible.

  • Structured data such as measurements and diagnoses are often embedded in the text, and for this reason hard to use for overviews of the patient's state or for statistics.

  • Structured data can be simple (e.g., surveys/lab tests) or complex (e.g., sleep studies).

  • Structured data generated by information extraction components may be associated with confidence scores.

  • Structured data permits the interpretation of data content by applications.
