Switching service definition

Switching service means switching performed for service lines.
Switching service means the shifting of a car between two points, both of which are within the industrial vicinity of an industry, a group of industries, a station, or a city, as such industrial vicinity may be defined by the department.
Switching service means the classification of rail cars according to commodity or destination; assembling of cars for train movements; changing the position of cars for purposes of loading, unloading, or weighing; placing of locomotives and cars for repair or storage; or moving of rail equipment in connection with work service that does not constitute a train movement. FRA has not limited switching service to yard limits, although switching service often takes place within a rail yard.
