Failure modes Clauses Exemplaires

Failure modes. Figure 2.6 Observed failure modes after single lap shear tests classified according to XXXX X0000 [121]. LFT = light fibre tearing; COH = cohesive Three types of failure modes, designated as types A, B and C, are observed on the broken lap shear specimens. They are schematized in Figure 2.6. Type A failure mode is a light fibre tearing (LFT). This failure usually occurs at the ends of the overlap where the shear and peel stresses are higher. The failure is located between the fibre and matrix with some fibres remaining attached to the HE. All other failure modes are cohesive (COH), i.e., located between the SS mesh and the matrix. In type B failure mode, the mesh remains attached to the adherends. Type C failure mode consists in the mesh debonding from the adherends without any polymer on it.
