The City conducted an internal audit and analysis of the current streetlight system and determined it to be in the best interest of the City to move forward with a City-owned and maintained system. Purpose of the Project. The purpose of this project is to improve the environment and to preserve tourism resources by improving water quality in Todos Os Xxxxxx Bay. On completion of this project, it is expected that sewerage system diffusion in Salvador (currently 26%) will be 82%, and the beach area sanitary safe for swimming will be expanded, with reduction of the risk of epidemics and improved water quality. These improvements are an essential part of maintenance of the area's tourism resources and the preservation of water quality. In addition, expansion of the sewerage system will result in improved sanitary conditions and welfare generally. This project will also promote women's participation in solving the problem of sanitary conditions by improved education on these matters. The loan is for civil works, procurement of materials and equipment, and consulting services.
