Step 2. The Union Representative or Representatives may take the matter up with the Employer official designated by the Employer to handle Labour Relations matters. If the matter is not taken up within ten (10) calendar days of the date the Union received the written reply to the grievance in Step 1, it shall be deemed to have been abandoned and further recourse to the Grievance Procedure shall be forfeited.

Step 2. A grievance that is not resolved at Step 1 may, at the grievor's request, be submitted to the Director, Employee/Labour Relations, or their specified designate, within 10 business days after the expiry of the response time under Step 1. Upon receipt of the grievance, the Director, Employee/Labour Relations, or their designate, will meet with the Union Representative and/or Xxxxxxx who signed the grievance, or their specified designate, and the grievor within 10 business days after the date on which the Director received the grievance. At the Union's discretion, a United Steelworkers staff representative may also attend the Step 2 grievance meeting. The Director will provide the Union and the grievor with a written response within 10 business days after the Step 2 grievance meeting.
Step 2. If the grievance is not resolved in Step 1, the grievant shall have fifteen (15) working days to present the grievance in writing to the Department Head/designee after the grievant receives an answer in Step 1. Within fifteen (15) working days of receipt of the grievance, the Department Head/designee shall hold a meeting to resolve such grievance. The Department Head/designee shall render a decision within fifteen (15) working days after the conclusion of the meeting. Step 2. A grievant dissatisfied with the immediate supervisor's response at Step 1 may appeal to the intermediate supervisor, in writing, within ten (10) days of receipt of the Step 1 answer. The intermediate supervisor may convene a meeting or respond in writing within twenty (20) days of receipt of the grievance. If a meeting is held the intermediate supervisor shall respond in writing within twenty (20) days.
Step 2. If the grievance has not been satisfactorily resolved in Step 1, the aggrieved employee and/or the Association may appeal the grievance by submitting a copy of the grievance on the grievance form contained in Appendix "B" to the appropriate Department Director within ten (10) calendar days after the Division Director's response is received or is due. The Department Director shall respond in writing to the employee with a copy to the Association within ten (10) calendar days.
