Step One definition

Step One. In accordance with the requirements of formal filing listed in Section 2 of this Article, the grievance must be presented in writing to the Department Chair. (If the grievant is in an administrative unit with no Chair, then this step is omitted.) As an exception to this requirement that grievances commence at Step One, a grievance may first be presented at Step Two or Three of this procedure if the action being grieved originated with the Xxxx or Xxxxxxx respectively. Within ten (10) days of receipt of the grievance, the Chair will hold a meeting with the grievant and the Union representative. In cases where the Union has filed the grievance, the meeting shall include the particular faculty member or members are named in the grievance and a Union representative. If such faculty member is unable to attend the meeting the Union may designate a second Union representative to be present at the meeting. In cases where no individual faculty member is named in the grievance, and the Union is acting as the grievant, then the Union may designate two (2) representatives to the meeting. For all meetings, the parties shall inform each other at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting as to those who will be participating in the meeting. The Chair, at his or her option, may have another administrator or support staff member at the meeting. If the grievance is not resolved at this meeting, then within ten (10) days of the meeting, the Department Chair shall forward a written response to the grievance to the grievant, with a copy to the Union representative.
Step One. If, as a result of the discussion with the principal or immediate supervisor, the matter is not resolved to the satisfaction of the grievant, the grievant may set forth the grievance in writing to the principal or immediate supervisor on the grievance forms provided. The grievant shall have the right to request an informal hearing before the principal or immediate supervisor upon the form provided. If an informal hearing is not requested by the grievant, the principal or immediate supervisor may conduct such a hearing to assist in the consideration of the grievance. The immediate supervisor shall communicate the decision to the grievant in writing, with reasons, not later than ten (10) school days from the receipt of the written grievance.
Step One. If the problem is not resolved to the Grievant's and the AAUP's satisfaction during the Informal Consultation, a formal written grievance may be submitted to the Board of Trustees' Contract Administrator. The submission should describe the basis of the grievance and the remedy sought. It should include any documents supporting the complaint.

  • If the grievance matter is not resolved through informal resolution at Step One, or where Step One is not exercised, it shall be set forth in writing as a grievance, be signed by the grievor and a union representative and given to their Chair or equivalent within fourteen the twenty-eight calendar day period stated at Article 6.01 (ii) and (iii).

More Definitions of Step One

Step One. An employee alleging a violation of the express provisions of this Agreement must, within ten (10) days of its alleged occurrence, orally discuss the grievance with their immediate supervisor in an attempt to resolve it. If the complaint is not resolved within five (5) days from the date of the discussion and the employee wishes to pursue the grievance further, they must reduce it to writing in accordance with the provisions of this Agreement and present it to their immediate supervisor within ten (10) days from the date of the verbal discussion. The employee's immediate supervisor will answer the grievance, in writing, within five (5) days. If the employee is not satisfied with the disposition by their immediate supervisor, they must, within five (5) days, appeal such answer to Step Two by presenting a copy of the written grievance to the Superintendent’s designated representative. Step Two: Within five (5) days of receipt of the written grievance as specified in Step One, the Superintendent’s designated representative shall conduct a meeting with the employee and/or their xxxxxxx to discuss the grievance. Within five (5) days of the date of such meeting, the Superintendent’s designated representative shall render a decision in writing, transmitting a copy to the employee and/or the xxxxxxx. If, in the event the decision of the Superintendent’s designated representative is unsatisfactory to the employee, and the employee wishes to appeal the grievance to Step Three of the grievance procedure, they must, within five (5) days of said answer, file a copy of the written grievance together with a copy of the decision of the Superintendent’s designated representative with the Superintendent or designated representative. Step Three: Within ten (10) days of receipt of the written grievance, or a mutually agreeable date, as provided for in Step Two, the Superintendent or designated representative shall schedule a meeting with the employee and/or the Union to discuss the grievance. Within five (5) days from the date of this meeting, the Superintendent or designated representative shall answer the grievance in writing with a copy to the employee and/or the Union. Step One. The aggrieved or the Union shall institute action under the provisions hereof within ten (10) calendar days after the event giving rise to the grievance has occurred, and an xxxxxxx effort shall be made to settle the differences between aggrieved employee and the immediate supervisor for the purpose of resolving the matter informally. Failure to act within said ten (10) calendar days shall be deemed to constitute an abandonment of the grievance.
