ACTING RANK. 18.01 When a Member performs the duty of a higher-ranking Officer/Supervisor in charge of a shift, in any one-contract year, the Member's rate of pay will be at the rate of the higher position. The record of this time will be kept on file with the Chief of Police and the total accumulated time will be paid out on or before the fifteenth (15) day of December each year.

ACTING RANK. When a Member performs the duty of Supervisor in charge of a shift, in any one contract year, the Member’s rate of pay will be at the rate of the higher position. The record of these days will be kept on file with the Chief of Police. If the Member is in charge of one-half shift or more, the Member shall receive credit for the higher rate for the full shift. If the time is less than half a shift, then the Member’s standard rate shall apply for all hours worked on that shift.
ACTING RANK. 14.1 Any member who performs the duties of a rank higher than that which he holds shall be compensated for such additional responsibility as set out below. 14.1.1 For each tour of duty of 50% but less than 75% of the scheduled hours shall receive one half hour pay at their regular hourly rate. 14.1.2 For each tour equal to or greater than 75% of the scheduled hours shall receive one hour of pay at their regular hourly rate. 14.1.3 The member may take the time off or receive payment.
ACTING RANK. 22.01 Each employee who is required to act in the capacity of a higher rank, shall be paid at the rate of such higher rank for each complete shift or part thereof which he so works. In the context of this Article, a shift shall mean ten (10) hours, fourteen (14) hours, eight (8) hours or twelve (12) hours, as the case may be. Notwithstanding the above, effective February 1, 2005, the Acting Communications Officer will be paid the rate of 112.5% of a 1st Class Fire Fighter rate. Once the Joint Communication Centre (JCC) is fully operational and conditional upon the JCC becoming fully operational, the Acting Communications Officer rate will increase to 115% of a 1st Class Fire Fighter rate. The assignment to Acting Communications Officer shall only occur when the Assistant Division Chief of Communications is not scheduled to work. 22.02 Payment of acting-time shall be payable bi-weekly. Effective July 1, 2005, acting rates shall include Service Recognition as per Article 24.02. 22.03 During the period in which the Assistant Division Chief is required to act in the capacity of a Division Chief, he will receive an “acting rate” of 125% of a first class fire fighter rate for each complete shift or part thereof which he works. 22.04 In the event the Assistant Division Chief is unable to act for the Division Chief, then an employee acting in the Division Chief capacity will be paid at the rate of 116% of a first class fire fighter rate. 22.05 The procedure for moving an Assistant Division Chief into the position of Acting Division Chief will be governed by the following: 1. When a Division Chief is scheduled on vacation, lieu days or time-owing; 2. When a Division Chief is off due to an illness or injury; and 3. When a Division Chief is outside the boundaries of the Region of Peel for a full day and anytime the Division Chief makes a determination that they are unavailable to deal with an emergency situation while absent from the office, within the Region of Peel. 4. When the Division Chief is away, and an Assistant Division Chief moves into the Acting Division Chief’s position, an Acting Assistant Division Chief would then move into the Assistant Division Chief’s position and be paid accordingly, if there are five (5) or more personnel to be supervised on duty. 22.06 The position of Assistant Division Chief shall be incorporated into Non Fire Fighting Divisions having five (5) or more personnel. ACTING RANK. Any full-time fire fighter who acts in the capacity of a Captain, Senior Captain, or Platoon Chief without holding such permanent rank, shall be paid by the Employer the salary rate of a Captain, Senior Captain or Platoon Chief for each full shift worked. One day’s shift pay is to be calculated at the rate of one, one hundred and eighty-two (1/182) times an employee’s annual salary. The selection of employees to act in such higher positions, shall at all times be at the discretion of the Chief, or Deputy Chiefs, in accordance with the Promotional Policy.
