Common use of Arbitrator Jurisdiction and Authority Clause in Contracts

Arbitrator Jurisdiction and Authority. The Arbitrator shall have jurisdiction and authority only to apply and interpret the provisions of this Agreement. He/she shall have no power to add to, or subtract from, or modify any of the terms of this Agreement; nor shall he/she substitute his/her discretion for that of the University or the Union where such discretion has been retained by the University or the Union; nor shall he/she exercise any responsibility or function of the University or the Union. The Arbitrator's award shall be made in writing and shall be rendered within thirty (30) calendar days after the close of the proceedings.
