The 'Attending Funerals' clause establishes an employee's right to take leave from work to attend the funeral of a family member or close associate. Typically, this clause outlines the amount of paid or unpaid leave permitted, specifies which relationships qualify (such as immediate family), and may require advance notice or documentation. Attending Funerals. Principals/Supervisors, after consultation with the appropriate Superintendent, may allow a reasonable representation of employees to attend funerals.
Attending Funerals. Up to three (3) days per occurrence shall be granted to attend the funeral of a person not otherwise included in section 2 c. herein.
Attending Funerals a.) Certified/licensed personnel shall be granted one (1) day funeral leave without loss of pay in the event of death of a relative by blood or marriage (i.e. aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, cousin).
b.) Upon advanced request and at the discretion of the Superintendent of Schools, certified/licensed personnel may be granted one (1) day funeral leave without loss of pay to attend the funeral of a close friend.
c.) Notification of aforementioned absences shall be made no later than one (1) day prior to the day of the leave, unless unusual circumstances exist.
d.) In cases of undue hardship and at the discretion of the Superintendent of Schools, such leave may be extended up to five (5) consecutive calendar days.
Attending Funerals consultation with the appropriate Superintendent, may allow a reasonable representation of employees to attend funerals. In cases of legal commitments, leave will be granted as follows: Jury Duty no time limit; jury fee, exclusive of any travel allowance, remitted to the Board. Witness no time limit; witness fee, exclusive of any travel allowance, remitted to the Board. Plaintiff or defendant at the discretion of the Director of Education. Quarantine or other order of health authorities according to the provisions of the Education Act and other relevant legislation.
