Common use of AUTHORSHIP - RIGHT TO PUBLISH Clause in Contracts

AUTHORSHIP - RIGHT TO PUBLISH. The Station encourages every staff member to contribute as fully as they can to the service and research provided for Connecticut. Authorship on a published scientific report is the recognition of a substantial and original intellectual contribution to discovery and should be awarded without consideration of rank when such a contribution has been made. Membership in a scientific society is not a prerequisite to authorship. The ability to present a lucid account of the research and discoveries should be considered a prerequisite to authorship. The responsibility for determining the authorship of a paper rests with the scientist leading the investigation. However, before such determination is made, the matter will be discussed with the appropriate chief scientist.
