Class D - Super Heavy Duty. a) An operator should maintain at least one three-axle tow truck with a GVWR of at least 54,000 pounds. The truck shall be equipped with air brakes and must be capable of providing and maintaining continuous air to the towed vehicle. 1) If this class of tow truck is used exclusively for salvage and recovery operations, there is no requirement for providing and maintaining continuous air to the towed vehicle.

All Class D tow trucks with a GVWR of less than 52,000 pounds currently approved for SBSD Class D rotation tow lists will be allowed to remain on the Class D rotation list until June 10, 2012. Class D equipment specifications can be found in Attachment C of this Agreement.
1) If this class of tow truck is used exclusively for salvage and recovery operations, there is no requirement for providing and maintaining continuous air to the towed vehicle.
