COMBINING OF CLASSES PROHIBITED DUE TO TEACHER ABSENCE. The Administration shall be responsible for arranging the supervision of the classroom during the teacher's absence. A. When a teacher is absent for any reason, every attempt shall be made to hire a substitute. When a substitute cannot be hired, classes shall not be combined to exceed the state mandated number of students per class. A teacher shall not be required to arrange for his/her substitute as a pre-requisite for using any leave to which he/she is entitled. A teacher attending staff development meetings shall not be responsible for arranging for a volunteer substitute. This is the responsibility of the building Administration.25 B. When administrators, or other authorized people, need to confer with teachers, every attempt shall be made to schedule said conferences outside of normal classroom time. C. Each teacher will prepare a folder that informs a substitute of general rules and responsibilities. The folder will be kept in the building principal’s office and made available to the substitute. Each substitute will return the folder back at the end of each day. D. After all possible efforts have been made to hire a substitute teacher; a teacher who is required to cover another teacher’s class shall be compensated in accordance with the following rate: One-half the hourly rate ($6.25) for up to 10 students, the full hourly rate ($12.50) for 10 or more students for up to half of the day26.

F. A teacher who is required to absorb students from another class shall be compensated at the hourly rate of $6.25) for 6.00 per hour, up to 10 studentsstudents or $12.50 per hour, the full hourly rate ($12.50) for more than 10 or more students for up to half of the day26.per class.41
