Leave of Absence for Union Business. 17.1 The Board acknowledges the right of the Union to appoint or select a Negotiation Committee of not more than seven (7) employees and will recognize and deal with this Committee with respect to contract negotiations. The Union agrees to provide the names of all Committee members to the Board in writing.
17.2 The Union may have the service of a CUPE Staff Representative, counsel or adviser at any meeting with representatives of the Board during negotiations pertaining to renewal or amendment of the Collective Agreement.
17.3 Members of the Union negotiating committee shall be paid at their regular straight time rate of pay for their regularly scheduled work time spent with officials of the Board for purposes of amending or renewing the Agreement up to and including, but not beyond the stage of conciliation, provided, however, that such committee members shall not be compensated for time spent prior to or beyond their regular working hours.
17.4 Upon request, members of the Union's Negotiating Committee shall be permitted leave of absence to prepare for the commencement of formal contract negotiations with the Board. The total number of days of leave under this Article shall not exceed 28 days during the lifetime of the Agreement and no member shall be absent for more than 4 days for this purpose. The Union shall give the Board a minimum of 5 days advance notice of any such request. An employee on such leave shall continue to receive pay and benefits provided in this Agreement. The Union shall reimburse the Board for all pay and benefits for the period of absence.
17.5 Leave of absence without pay and without loss of sick leave credits or seniority shall be granted upon request to the Board to employees elected or appointed to represent the Union at recognized Union conventions or conferences. In addition, up to twenty-five (25) days leave of absence per Agreement year shall be granted for local Union business, and such leave shall be without pay and without loss of sick leave credits or seniority. An employee on any of the foregoing leaves shall receive the pay and benefits provided in this Agreement. The Union shall reimburse the Board for all pay and benefits for the period of absence.
17.6 An employee selected for up to and including a full-time position with the local shall be granted leave of absence without loss of seniority or benefits for a period of up to two (2) years. Such leave shall be renewed each year, on request, during the term of office...
Leave of Absence for Union Business. Any elected or appointed officer of the Union shall, upon request and approval of the Employer, be granted a leave of absence without pay to attend to Union business, or the leave can be granted with pay if the Union agrees to pay the cost of the substitute.
Leave of Absence for Union Business. Official representatives of the Union will be granted leave of absence without pay to attend Union conventions or to perform any other function on behalf of the Union and its affiliation(s). It is agreed that the Department Head and the Department of Human Resources will be given at least ten (10) days advance notice in writing, or in case of an emergency, as much notice as possible in writing. It is understood that such leave of absence must not interfere with the normal functions of any University department.
Leave of Absence for Union Business. With reasonable notice by the Union, and where operational requirements permit, leave of absence with pay shall be granted to Employees designated by the Union to attend to union business. The Union shall reimburse the Employer for all costs of the leave relating to the wages and benefits for the time off.
Leave of Absence for Union Business a. The Employer shall grant leaves of absence to employees to attend Union Conventions, Seminars, Education Classes or other Union Business. The Union agrees that such leave will not unduly affect the proper operations of the Nursing Home.
b. In requesting such leaves of absence, the Union must give twenty-one (21) days clear notice to the Employer to be confirmed by the Union in writing.
c. Employees on such leaves of absence will be paid by the Employer who will be reimbursed by the Union for the Amount paid the employees. While on unpaid leave of up to thirty (30) days employees will be maintained on normal pay and benefits (including Pension), and the Union shall fully reimburse the Employer for wages, statutory benefits (i.e. EHT, EI, CPP, WSIB) and Pension, but would not include Health and Welfare and Weekly Indemnity premiums (if applicable).
d. Upon application by the Union in writing, the Nursing Home will give reasonable consideration to a request for leave of absence, without pay, to an employee elected or appointed to a full-time Union office. It is understood that not more than one (1) employee in the bargaining unit may be on such leave at the same time. Such leave, if granted, shall be for a period of one (1) calendar year from the date of appointment unless extended for a further specific period by agreement of the parties. Seniority and service shall accumulate during such leave to the maximum provided, if any, under the provisions of the Collective Agreement. It will become the responsibility of the employee for full payment, one
(1) month in advance, of any applicable benefits in which the employee participating during such leave of absence. It is agreed that for the purpose of WSIB coverage, such employees are deemed to be employed by the Union.
Leave of Absence for Union Business. A. Any Employee elected or appointed to an office in the Union will, if such office requires the Employee's full time in the exercise and discharge of its duties, be given a leave of absence without pay not to exceed one (1) year. Extension may be granted by the Employer for a period not to exceed twelve (12) months.
B. Any Employee elected or appointed to attend the Biennial State and/or National Union convention shall be given a leave of absence without pay or vacation leave for the duration of the convention including reasonable travel time. The Union shall notify the Employer in writing, not less than thirty (30) days prior to the commencement of the leaves, of the dates of the scheduled convention, the names and departments of the elected or appointed Employees and alternates. In the event an alternate is substituted for another Employee to attend the convention, the Union shall notify the Employer immediately of the substitution. It is agreed that any adjustments in the work schedules necessitated to accommodate the substitution shall not result in overtime for all Employees.
C. Any Employee elected or appointed to attend a Statewide Leadership Conference of the Union may be given a leave of absence without pay or vacation leave for the duration of the conference including reasonable travel time.
D. Unless otherwise provided by law, no Employee on leave of absence without pay shall be entitled to accrue or accumulate vacation allowance, sick leave, service credit for increments and longevity increases or other rights and benefits for the term of the Employee's leave but the Employee shall not lose seniority for the purpose of determining length of service.
Leave of Absence for Union Business. On request from the local lodge, the Company may grant leave of absence without pay to officials of the local lodge or their delegates for the transaction of Union business and attending trade Union conventions. The number of approved leaves of absence, also the number of days granted, to be mutually agreed upon. On request from the local lodge, the Company will grant leave of absence without pay to an employee for the duration of his/her full time employment by the local lodge, or Grand Lodge of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers providing that the number of employees who at any one (1) time shall be granted such leaves, shall be mutually agreed upon. Seniority shall continue to accrue during such leave of absence. The employee must return to the employment of the Company within 30 days following completion of his/her term of office, providing work for which he/she is qualified shall be available.
Leave of Absence for Union Business. (a) Employees who are acting as full-time officers or representatives of the Union or who are hired, elected or appointed to positions representing the United Steelworkers' of America shall be granted an unpaid leave of absence to perform their duties, with the time involved considered as service with the Employer.
(b) An Employee on leave pursuant to this Clause 27.03 may elect to continue some or all of the benefit plan coverage provided by this Agreement in which case s/he shall be responsible for reimbursing the Employer on a monthly basis for the cost of such continued coverage, unless either the Union or the United Steelworkers' Of America makes such monthly payments on behalf of the Employee.
(c) Except as expressly provided otherwise by this Clause 27.03, the Employee shall be kept "whole" by the Employer with respect to all seniority, benefits and other rights and entitlements which would accrue under this Agreement had he or she remained working.
(d) Permission for leave pursuant to this Clause 27.03 shall not be unreasonably denied by the Employer and such leave, once approved, shall not be interrupted by the Employer during the approved period of the leave except with the consent of the Employee.
Leave of Absence for Union Business. (a) Time off with pay shall be granted to not more than four (4) elected representatives of the Union whenever it becomes necessary to transact business with the Board during working hours.
(b) Representatives of the Union shall not suffer any loss of pay when required to leave their employment temporarily in order to carry on negotiations with the Board or with respect to a grievance.
Leave of Absence for Union Business. (a) The Employer shall grant leaves of absence to employees to attend union conventions, negotiations of the collective agreement with the Employer and other union business. The Union agrees that such leave will not unduly affect the proper operations of the Employer.
(b) In requesting such leaves of absence, the Union must give 14 days' written notice to the Employer to be confirmed in writing. The Employer will respond to the application within seven days.
(c) Employees on such leave of absence will be paid by the Employer who will be reimbursed by the Union for the amount paid to the employee.
(d) It is agreed that the Union will elect three employees who will represent the Union in negotiations of subsequent collective agreements with the Employer.
