Commitment to a Safe Workplace. The parties acknowledge the benefits of a safe workplace and agree to actively work together to ensure the safety and health of employees, contractors and the wider community. The following principles are agreed: • All incidents and injuries can be prevented; • Managers and other leaders of people are responsible, within their level of authority, for ensuring that systems, procedures and conditions of work are such that work can be accomplished without injury or risk to health; • The prevention of injury and the maintenance of health are the responsibilities of each employee; • All employees are required to be aware of, and trained in the safe working procedures applicable to their tasks; and • All employees are required to exercise good judgement in completing tasks and to ensure that their actions do not create hazards to themselves or other employees. The following specific arrangements in line with the above principles shall apply: • All operating exposures and unsafe practices shall be reported as soon as is practicable; • All operating exposures and unsafe practices shall be addressed on a priority basis to reduce risks to an acceptable level. Operating exposures that require immediate safeguarding shall be actioned with a sense of urgency; • All injuries must be reported to the employee’s manager, or the managers delegate, as soon as the injury becomes evident (including out of normal hours); • An injured employee shall be provided the treatment and care necessary to ensure the earliest return to work that is practically possible; • Working safely is a condition of employment. • Safety standards shall be clearly communicated and consistently applied to all employees. • Training will be provided and employees are expected to participate.
