Concluding Statement. Stressed the need to expand PhilHealth coverage and hasten the implementation of public-private partnership (PPP) projects. Acknowledged that the Daang Matuwid/Straight Path theme of governance is not perfect but committed to improve it if he becomes president. He emphasized that decent people must be allowed to lead the Philippines. Vice President Xxxxx said he supports the approval of an FOI law. However, Sen. Xxx questioned the VP’s sincerity, saying he should first answer corruption allegations in the Senate. The VP tried to sidestep questions on graft and corruption and appeared defensive at times. At one point he even accused Xxx Xxxxx of embezzling funds as a DOTC secretary. He criticized the Xxxxxx administration for underspending. He said the government has enough funds but has been underspending, resulting in the delay of key government projects. He assured the public that his proposal of exempting employees earning P30,000 and less from income tax is doable. The VP said the government should curb smuggling as this could add P250 billion to government coffers annually which the government could use in constructing vital infrastructure projects. Xxxxx questioned Roxas for "unliquidated" DILG funds. Xxxxx refuted him by saying that Xxxxx is referring to outdated Commission on Audit (COA) data. If he wins he’ll only appoint cabinet members who are competent and have relevant experience. He questioned Xxxxx’ ability to head the DILG. The Filipino people need actions, not promises. He mentioned his wide experience as a public official: Makati mayor, MMDA chairman, and Vice President. He promised to replicate the social service programs he implemented in Makati throughout the country, such as free education and healthcare services. He reduced Makati city's debts and was able to generate jobs for the city's residents. He emphasized the importance of compassion in serving the public. POLITICAL -from registration and acquiring permits to getting credit and paying taxes. "I will reform the BIR so that we will not have to file monthly, quarterly and yearly. If we can just file half a year or maybe once a year, we should do it that way. I want it to be easy for all of you because I know how difficult it is, being the daughter of an entrepreneur myself," Sen. Xxx said. The senator said she will call on all local government units to institute reforms such as processing payments and registrations online, creating more single-window applications, and implementing one-stop shop ...
