Contingent appointments. 5.1.1.1. The administration will provide the AAUP with FTETF data for each academic semester; data shall be supplied in the form of a report compiling the Teaching Load Analysis documents created by each Department Head. Total institutional FTETF shall be defined annually according to these reports, and will include the sum of all teaching load credits assigned by Department Heads within the university, with the exception of those assigned within the Technology and Occupational Sciences Department. Tenure/tenure-earning and Continuing Contract Status faculty FTETF shall include the sum of all teaching load credits assigned by Department Heads to tenured or tenure-earning faculty or Continuing Contract Status faculty, with the exception of those assigned within the Technology and Occupational Sciences Department. The ratio of tenure/tenure-earning and Continuing Contract Status faculty FTETF to the total FTETF will not decrease by more than 5% in any year nor shall the percentage of total FTETF taught by tenured, tenure-earning and Continuing Contract Status faculty drop below 60%. If either of the above limits have been exceeded, EPC will make recommendations as required by 3.4.2 to rectify the imbalance.

For example, a reduction in the ratio from 75% to 69% would require such a review whereas a reduction from 75% to 73% would not. EPC recommendation will also be required if the percentage of the total FTETF taught by tenured and tenure-track faculty drops below 60% in any year. The Administration will provide the AAUP with the FTETF data each year.
Contingent appointments. 6.1 Only the provisions of this Article and such other Articles and Schedules specifically referenced in this Article shall apply to individuals on a contingent appointment. 6.2 A contingent appointment shall mean an appointment principally dependent upon the availability of funds other than the regular operating grants of the Department of Advanced Education of the Province of Alberta. A contingent appointment is dependent upon the continued availability of these non-operating funds. 6.3 Athabasca University shall, on a quarterly basis, give to the Secretary of the Association a current list of all Staff Members employed on a contingent appointment basis, specifying the nature and source of the funds upon which the appointment is contingent and indicating any appointment for which a higher than normal salary has been authorized. 6.4 Applications for a contingent appointment shall be considered by a Search Committee. 6.5 The offer of employment shall specify the source or sources of the funds upon which the appointment is contingent. 6.6 A contingent appointment may be renewed subject to the continued availability of the same specified non-operating funds. A contingent appointment related to different funds shall be treated as a new appointment. 6.7 A contingent appointment shall be for a limited term and shall terminate automatically at the end of the term. 6.8 A contingent appointment shall not carry any implication that the contingent appointee will be considered for any other appointment. 6.9 A contingent appointment may be terminated for cause. Cause for termination shall include a significant reduction or shortage of funds in which case two (2) months written notice shall be given. 6.10 Contingent appointees are expected to work on the activities for which the non-operating funds have been provided and shall not normally perform work assigned to regular Staff Members unless specifically hired to replace a regular Staff Member assigned to perform work based on contingent funds. 6.11 A contingent appointee's salary shall normally be determined in accordance with Schedule A-1 or Schedule A-2 at the time of hiring.
