Common use of Contractor Allowance Clause in Contracts

Contractor Allowance. This item may only be used to cover costs of unknown, unforeseen circumstances within the scope of the grant that are necessary for Project completion. (For example: if unknown underground utilities must be removed or relocated to accomplish the Project) This item must have prior approval of the State for each use of the item during construction in order to be eligible for reimbursement by the State. The bid item shall be clearly defined in the contract documents with concise language describing when it may be utilized. It shall also be specified that the item may not be used at all. The allowance may only be used for unforeseen items directly related to the Project.
