Development of search engines for nanomaterial interactions. The ability of computers to search a large number of interactions between natural biopolymers (e.g. carbohydrates, proteins, nucleic acids, polysaccharides and mixed biopolymers such as glycoproteins, lipoproteins, and glycolipids) and nanomaterials would be particularly useful in learning ‘design rules’ underlying nanomaterial toxicity. This would also allow researchers to focus on the most important biopolymer systems for more detailed experimental and computational study. This could not only lead to development of nanomaterials with high functionality and reduced adverse impacts on the environment, the development of such searching power could also be a commercial opportunity.
