Common use of Directed Self-Studies Clause in Contracts

Directed Self-Studies. Directed studies are existing college courses which are taught during a quarter when the course is not being offered on the annual schedule. Directed studies are offered for the purpose of allowing a student to successfully stay on track towards completion of his/her course of study. A student taking a directed study will be expected to do a significant amount of independent learning. Directed study status will not be used in order to under pay a faculty teaching a course scheduled on the annual schedule. 1. A faculty member teaching a directed study will receive 1/5 of the part-time rate for the first student and $85 per credit per additional student(s). 2. Faculty will get a minimum of 1/5 of the part-time rate even if all students subsequently drop the course. 3. A course originally on the annual schedule for a given quarter may not be converted to a directed study status during that quarter on the specific campus. 4. Directed studies are expected to have one to three students.
