Independent Study. Independent study is a program of independent study, research, and/or experience directly related to the duties described in the employee’s job description or related classification as determined by the Retraining and Study Committee, which promises professional values equivalent to that derived from formal study at a recognized educational institution.
Independent Study. A sabbatical leave may be granted for a plan of independent study, research, writing, and/or travel equivalent in time and rigor to a sabbatical for formal study. A detailed, specific plan must be submitted by the applicant and approved by the Salary and Leaves Committee as likely to improve the applicant’s teaching effectiveness, strengthen the College’s academic program, or otherwise bring a clear benefit to students. In addition, sabbaticals for independent study must generate tangible products of use to students.
Independent Study. An adjunct faculty member shall be eligible for an independent study assignment at the discretion of the Xxxx. Reimbursement shall be at the rate of forty-five dollars ($45) per credit hour generated. An adjunct faculty member may not contract to work with more than four (4) students during any Fall or Spring semester.
Independent Study. An applicant for independent study leave shall agree to pursue a program of study, research and/or experience under guidance of a sponsor from a recognized institution of higher learning. This program must be at least equivalent in effort and content to the required units of a formal study leave.
Independent Study. Upon approval by the Chief Academic Officer, independent study compensation shall be two hundred dollars ($200.00) per student per for a one or two credit hour course and three hundred dollars ($300.00) per student for courses that are three or more credit hours. Units taught as independent study shall not be included in the Employees' computation towards overload. Compensation for independent study shall be paid at the end of the semester in which the study is completed.
Independent Study. These experiences, provided to academically successful students, are specially designed and are not offered in the normal course listing. These experiences may be non-honors courses that, like honors tutorials, are based on a set of readings, discussions, and writing assignments; they may be based on experimental work; or they may involve intensive research activity. Faculty members supervising independent study experiences will be compensated at the rate of $185 per credit hour for each student they supervise. Normally, faculty are limited to mentoring no more than two students per semester in any combination of these courses. Exceptions to this limitation can be made by the Dxxx for programmatic reasons, in response to course cancellations, or in the case of Honors Tutorials, where there are not enough faculty available within a certain discipline, major, or area of expertise.
Independent Study. 23.9.1 The recommended caseload for Independent Study classes is thirty (30) regularly attending students.
Independent Study. A program of independent study of a specified aspect of education, culminating in a written report or other tangible product may be undertaken for up to 3 units per year. Each unit of credit requires 30 hours of work. Examples of independent study include: preparing an article for publication in a professional journal; researching and preparing a presentation for a professional conference; independent reading and reflection on a particular education topic; an action research project; and systematic, focused programs of observation and analysis of teaching or other educational functions. All independent study must be verified by submitting the end product of the study, a written description of the staff member’s activities that led to the product, and a one-page evaluation of the study’s contribution to the staff member’s professional development.
Independent Study. Independent study and research - preferably under the auspices of recognized institutions, foundation, or agencies - may be considered under the same conditions that govern formal study applications.
