Directions for Future Research. Continued examination of the psychometric properties of the RKPPS is recommended. As changes are made in the information provided for those administering the RKPPS, new studies should be conducted. Specifically, interrater and test–retest agreement should be examined for children who are typically developing and for those with developmental delays. Children in both groups should represent varying geographic regions, cultures, and socioeconomic groups. In addition, further validation studies should be completed, and normative data should be collected.
Directions for Future Research. Given this study’s findings and the lack of research and interventions focusing on internalized stigma and medication adherence among specialized HIV-infected populations (such as female African American AYAs), it is important for further research in the field. Following prior success of cognitive-behavioral techniques to reduce internalized stigma and improve medication adherence, it is also important to test these intervention techniques among the present study’s population. Overall, there is also urgency for large-scale anti-stigma campaigns, which could potentially reduce the internalization of stigma among HIV-infected persons. A systematic review of electronic media-based health interventions targeting youth found that almost all studies in the review found at least one statistically significant outcome in the proposed behavior change, which denotes the relevancy and appropriateness of such interventions for youth (▇▇▇▇▇▇▇, ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇, ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ & ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇, 2013). In further support of media-based interventions, studies have found that youth consistently view technology as empowering and positive (Cohall, ▇▇▇▇▇ & ▇▇▇, 2007; ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇, 2007). Based on the present study’s theoretical framework, it is important to target several layers of an individual’s life (specifically, the personal and social context in this study) in order to enhance the behavior of adherence.
Directions for Future Research. Our next planned steps following this paper include attempts to increase the sample size of the meta-analysis. We plan to contact the authors of the papers for which data was unable to be extracted, since these papers measured both postpartum depression and physical disability but presented their respective statistics separately; with the raw data from these studies, we will be able to calculate effect sizes of the association between these variables. In addition, we plan to reach out to the authors of papers where their effect sizes could not be calculated to attempt to use their raw data to be able to calculate the effect size ▇▇▇▇▇’▇ d. For studies that were included but did not present information about the cohorts regarding various demographic variables, authors will be contacted to see if this missing data can be used. In addition to these efforts, we plan to research normative values for postpartum depression prevalence to compare to each study for which a control group was not included, specifically finding values that are drawn from the same general population as each study sample. The data that we are able to acquire will be added to the overall meta-analytic model in order to increase the sample size and potentially allow us to analyze more demographic factors as potential moderators. Finally, studies that also measured anxiety in the postpartum period will separately be analyzed to assess the association between postpartum anxiety and physical disability. There are many avenues for future research building off this study, given the scarcity of research investigating the relationship between postpartum depression and physical disability. Future studies should collect further data about rates and predictors of postpartum depression in people with physical disabilities, for example examining additional moderating factors like age or race, as well as specific type of physical disability or level of impairment. In addition, these predictors should be investigated for potential mechanisms driving this association, for example, the higher rates of adverse obstetric and birth outcomes, higher rates of poverty and discrimination, and less social or financial support that are seen in people with physical disabilities (▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ et al., 2021; ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ et al., 2015). Directions for Future Research. The further research should address some of the many questions raised by the work reported in this dissertation. First, there is an issue this dissertation has only scratched the surface of: the increasing importance of project based, competitive funding. Public R&D funds are distributed in roughly two manners: as block grants to whole universities or research institutes (Dutch: eerste geldstroom) or as project based grants to individual research groups or scientists, through intermediary agencies (Dutch: tweede geldstroom; ▇▇▇▇▇▇ et al., 2007). The last four decades have seen a shift from block funding to project based funding (▇▇▇▇▇▇ et al., 2007; Kreckel, ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇, ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇, ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇, & ▇▇▇▇▇, 2008, pp. 62-64). In 2005, approximately one third of all research associates at German universities were funded through project based funding (Kreckel et al., 2008, p. 63). Directions for Future Research. As demonstrated through the findings of this study, increased research attention on abortion providers is necessary to bring to light the challenges that they experience as a consequence of living and practicing in abortion-restrictive environments, as well as to develop potential solutions. Per the results and constraints of this study, there are a number of avenues and issues that can be explored in future research on this topic. To best develop strategies to combat the professional barriers and personal challenges experienced by providers in the Southern United States, a suitable next step is to conduct a situational analysis of the legal and sociocultural context of abortion in each Southern state. Doing so could facilitate an in-depth understanding of the state-specific context and the identification of potential pathways to affect change in the abortion environment. In addition to a state-specific analyses, follow-up research could seek to recruit current and future providers from within the same state so as to understand the state- specific constraints and opportunities for provider recruitment and retention. While this study was able to achieve this to a certain degree, it would be helpful to have the perspectives of both abortion providers and medical students from each state. Another avenue for potential future research would be a mixed methods study on the differences in abortion attitudes, training availability and institutional policies between public and private medical education institutions located in the Southern United States. During analysis, we found some trends of increased abortion support in private medical education institutions relative to public institutions within the same state. The causes for this could be multifold ranging from restrictions on use of public funds, donor relations, religious affiliations etc. Research could help identify whether there is a difference between private and public, and religious and non-denominational institutions in their willingness to train abortion providers. As training opportunities for new providers was found to be a theme of repeated occurrence and importance across provider and medical student interviews, it is an appropriate topic area for future research. Directions for Future Research. This work is subject to limitations that may be rich avenues of future research. First, we do not observe if a television viewer sees an ad and then engages in online WOM. Such individual-level data could let us attribute changes in online WOM to television ads over longer time periods. The narrow time windows used in our analysis help us avoid potential unobservable impacts of this limitation. Second, we focus on the volume of online chatter as our social media data provides limited information on what is being said about the brands and programs. Future analysis of WOM content could permit a more nuanced study of television advertising and different online WOM types (e.g., recommendation, emotion, and attribute oriented WOM investigated by ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ et al.
