DRUG AND ALCOHOL USE BY STUDENTS. The nonmedical use, possession, or sale of drugs on school property or at school events is prohibited by federal law 20 U.S.C 7101et seq. Nonmedical is defined as "a purpose other than the prevention, treatment, or cure of an illness or disabling condition" consistent with accepted practices of the medical profession. Students in violation of the provisions of the above paragraph shall be subject to removal from school property and shall be subject to prosecution in accordance with the provisions of the law. Students attending school in the District who are in violation of the provisions of this policy shall be subject to disciplinary actions in accordance with the provisions of school rules and/or regulations. For purposes of this policy, "drugs" shall include, but are not limited to: ▪ All dangerous controlled substances prohibited by law. ▪ All alcoholic beverages. ▪ Any prescription or over-the-counter drug, except those for which permission to use in school has been granted pursuant to Governing Board policy. ▪ Hallucinogenic substances. ▪ Inhalants. Any student who violates the above may be subject to warning, reprimand, probation, suspension, or expulsion, in addition to other civil and criminal prosecution.
