Duties of SRO. The Agency shall provide the District with police officers capable of the following work rules: i. Report directly to the East Greenbush Police Department Chief of Police or his/her designee; ii. Provide for the security and safety of all students, staff, and visitors, protect school property and maintain order in and around the school site; iii. Attend Superintendent’s hearings with students as requested by the School District; iv. Provide intervention between students and/or staff using appropriate techniques to calm and control situations; v. Under the supervision of the Chief of Police or his/her designee, and in coordination with the School District’s administration, investigate all crimes and incidents occurring on and in the vicinity of school grounds. Provide the appropriate documentation for such investigations; vi. Report all violations of law, school rules, regulations or policies to the School District’s administration; vii. Enforce all governing New York State and federal laws, rules, and regulations and assist schools in meeting requirements mandated by New York State law; viii. Act as liaison with police and other emergency personnel. ix. Build relationships by being a liaison between the East Greenbush Police Department and the School District; x. Advise the School District’s administration of any circumstances or situation that may create any potential harm to persons, or damage to, or loss of property; xi. When feasible and requested to do so by School District’s officials, and in a manner which does not infringe upon individuals’ Constitutional rights, screen persons entering the building or school grounds; xii. Become familiar with all hidden recesses in the building and check them periodically; xiii. Maintain post integrity. Be highly visible and available at all times and refrain from unnecessary fraternization with other officers/employees of the School District; xiv. Question any individual not having appropriate identification to ascertain his/her status; xv. Develop and maintain a positive and open relationship with students, administrators, faculty, staff, and parents; xvi. When requested, participate in meetings with school officials, parents or the School Board to assist in dispute resolution and/or in developing policy and procedures concerning school safety. Additionally, provide information to students and staff in regard to DWIs, weapons, the sale of illegal drugs, etc.; xvii. Seize and store/dispose of any illegal substance or contraband seized by school officials as required/not required for evidence in the prosecution. xviii. Educate potential school-age victims in crime prevention and safety; and xix. Develop or expand crime prevention efforts for students.

Duties of SRO. The Agency shall provide the District with police officers capable purpose and intent of the following work rulesSRO program is to promote among students, within the school setting, a better understanding of federal, state and local laws, as well as the purposes and benefits of those laws. Accordingly, the SRO shall: i. Report directly A. Abide by School District policies and consult with and coordinate activities through the school principals and other school administrators. However, the SRO shall remain fully responsive to the East Greenbush chain of command of the Township Police Department in all matters relating to employment and supervision and shall at all times abide by the Rules, Regulations, Policies and Collective Bargaining Agreement of the Township Police Department; B. Refrain completely from functioning as a school disciplinarian. If a principal or other school administrator within the School District believes an incident is a violation of the law, the principal or administrator shall contact the SRO, who shall then determine whether law enforcement action is appropriate; C. Develop expertise in presenting various subjects, such as understanding of federal, state and local laws, and the duties of various law enforcement officers; D. Encourage individual and small group discussions with students, faculty, school administrators and parents concerning law enforcement related matters; E. Attend meetings of parents and faculty groups to solicit their support and understanding of the SRO program and to promote awareness of the law enforcement functions; F. Make himself or herself available for conferences with students, parents, faculty members and school administrators to assist them with problems of a law enforcement or crime prevention nature; G. Serve as a member of the S.N.A.P. team, the Drug Free Committee and as a member of any other school student services committee; H. Become familiar with community agencies which offer assistance to youth and their families, such as mental health programs, drug and alcohol treatment centers and the like, and make information concerning such resources available to students and their families when appropriate. Develop M. Give assistance to police officers in matters regarding the duties of the SRO whenever necessary; N. Promote citizen awareness of law enforcement efforts; O. Dress in his or her formal uniform while performing SRO duties. The uniform will also be worn at events where it will enhance the image of the officer and his or her ability to perform his or her duties. The SRO shall, at all times, wear his or her badges demonstrating that the SRO is a duly sworn Township Police Officer and also the SRO. Q. Be responsible for law enforcement activities at School District extracurricular events which occur within the Township, upon request of the principal(s) and as approved and scheduled by the Township Chief of Police. R. File reports required by the Township Chief of Police; S. Obtain written approval from the Township Chief of Police before ordering or purchasing materials, supplies or equipment; provided, however, that, if the School District is responsible for any part of the cost of any such materials, supplies or equipment, a copy of the request shall be given to the School District and the written approval of the School District shall be obtained before the purchase or acquisition is made. T. Serve as a confidential source, consistent with standard police policy, of counseling to students concerning problems which involve law enforcement issues. The SRO will cooperate and coordinate efforts with faculty, staff, school administrators and parents; xvi. When requested, participate in meetings with school officials, parents or other agencies addressing those issues within the School Board to assist in dispute resolution and/or in developing policy and procedures concerning school safety. Additionally, provide information to students and staff in regard to DWIs, weapons, the sale of illegal drugs, etc.; xvii. Seize and store/dispose of any illegal substance or contraband seized by school officials as required/not required for evidence in the prosecutionDistrict. xviii. Maintain a program of peer mediation within the Middle School, in crime prevention accordance with the standards of the National Association of High School Peer Mediation or training available through the Xxxxxxxxxx County Intermediate Unit. V. Promote an environment within the School District where teachers feel safe to teach and safety; andstudents feel safe to learn. xix. Develop or expand crime prevention efforts for studentsW. Attend meeting of community social service organizations as possible and practicable to become familiar with preventive and counseling services provided by such social service agencies.
