End Disks.  The end discs are made from material conforming to SANS 1431 Grade 300WA.  The hubs are made from either rolled plates or steel forgings, provided that the carbon content does not exceed 0.2% by mass.  No welded construction is allowed in the zone of the end disc and locking hub. With an end disc thickness of less than 30 mm and with the disc fitted on the rim inside diameter, the disc is welded to the rim on both the inside and outside face, should physical access allow this. Each weld shall penetrate at least one half of the end disc thickness. For an end disc thickness greater than 30 mm the attachment of the end disc to the shell is provided by a X xxxxxxxxxx welded circumferentially in the zone of the shell ends.  The maximum principal tri-axial (radial, tangential and torsional) stresses shall not individually exceed 50% of the material yield strength.  The combined maximum tri-axial stress shall not exceed 90% of the material yield strength in accordance with the Maximum Strain Energy Theory.  The fatigue stress reversal range shall not exceed 33% of the material yield strength for each of the principal tri-axial stresses for welded sections and for native metal respectively. The fatigue life is calculated utilising the accumulative fatigue damage data as per table.
