Common use of Extracurricular Trip Clause in Contracts

Extracurricular Trip. An extracurricular trip shall be defined as any bus trip which is not considered a regular route or shuttle. Actual driving time is not to exceed twelve (12) hours in any given twenty-four (24) hour period inclusive of their regularly scheduled hours. If the extracurricular trip is an overnight trip, the bus driver shall not be paid for sleep (8 hours). Overnight accommodations will be provided when necessary. Bus drivers shall receive extracurricular/athletic bus trip wages while on the extracurricular trip. Time paid for the trip will be reduced by two hours (normal route time) per route missed. Any time after the regular route time exchange, drivers will be paid extracurricular/athletic bus trip wages. Every attempt will made to offer extracurricular trips to regular route drivers prior to offering these trips to a coach/sponsor, substitute driver, or transportation assistant with the understanding the district may need to cover extracurricular bus trips due to extenuating circumstances. Hours for extracurricular trips and shuttle routes shall be divided as evenly as possible among the regular route drivers who wish to participate. When a trip is available, its length will be stated by the transportation director or designee and conflicting routes will be noted. If a driver accepts an extracurricular trip, the driver also accepts the stated length of the trip and missing the conflicting routes. The driver will be paid at least the minimum length of the trip as stated, unless the trip is cancelled, in which case the driver will drive any normal routes possible. If a substitute driver is requested for a route by the transportation director or designee, the substitute will drive the route.
