Common use of Field Order Clause in Contracts

Field Order. A Field Order is a written order to the Contractor signed by the County interpreting or clarifying the Contract Documents or directing the Contractor to perform minor changes in the Work. A minor change in the work is defined as a change not involving adjustment in the Contract Sum or an extension of the Contract Time and is not inconsistent with the intent of the Contract Documents. Such changes shall be effected by written order and shall be binding on the County and the Contractor. The Contractor shall carry out such orders promptly. Any work relating to the issuance of a Field Order shall be performed promptly and expeditiously and without additional cost to the County and within the Contract Time, unless the Contractor submits a Proposed Change Order, defined below, which is approved by the County. Field Orders shall be numbered consecutively by date.
