Initial Appointment as Lecturer. The status of Lecturer varies in the University from department to department and from Faculty to Faculty. It represents an initial appointment and temporary status, subject to the following guidelines: (a) Each person appointed to the rank of Lecturer shall be informed in writing at the time of appointment as to what conditions and length of service are expected to be fulfilled for subsequent promotion to the Assistant Professor rank. A faculty member shall not remain in the Lecturer rank for longer than three years. (b) Promotion from Lecturer to Assistant Professor is not a matter for express action by the Senate Committee on Tenure and Promotions. Such promotions shall be made using the standard appointment form.
