Term Appointments. 1.02.1 A term appointment is one in which the beginning and end dates of employment are clearly identified in the appointment letter. 1.02.2 It is agreed that employees employed on term appointments (hereinafter referred to as term employees) are covered by the terms of this Collective Agreement except for those Articles and conditions set out below: a) It is agreed that there is no guarantee or commitment of employment to an employee beyond that which is identified in their appointment letter. b) Term appointments normally are from 3 months to 1 year in length, though such an appointment may be for a longer period under special circumstances such as, Long Term Disability, Family Leave or Leave of Absence. c) Prior to hiring or renewing an employee on a term appointment, Human Resources staff will evaluate a job description submitted by the Department Head/Designate and determine the appropriate salary range and hiring salary in accordance with the Salary Administration provision of this Agreement. If the original appointment letter indicates a period of employment of more than 12 months, or if the employee's actual period of employment in the same position exceeds 12 months, the position description will be submitted for evaluation by the Joint Technical Position Evaluation Committee at the beginning of the thirteenth month of employment. If this evaluation results in a salary increase, the increase shall be made effective to the beginning of the thirteenth month of employment. d) Notwithstanding Article 21.01, term appointments of 3 to 6 months duration will not normally be posted; however, written notice will be sent to the Union. e) For the purposes of seniority, term employees will not be considered as new employees if they are rehired within 6 months of a previous termination. f) Notwithstanding Article 17 (Sick Leave), term employees shall be entitled to accumulate paid sick leave determined at the rate of 2 days per calendar month of their appointment to a maximum of 60 days. g) Notwithstanding Article 12 (Layoff and Recall), in the event of a layoff the University will provide as much advance notice as possible to term employees. Term Appointments. A Term Appointment is a temporary appointment, which stipulates a terminal date in the letter of appointment, and implies no obligation or expectation for extension or renewal. Specified positions for term appointments shall be for a maximum duration of three (3) years except as specified in this Article. Members who have held specific term appointments for the maximum period of three (3) years are eligible, however, to apply for other term appointments or for re- appointment provided the maximum duration for which the particular position can be filled on a term basis is not exceeded. Term Appointments shall be offered only to meet the following special needs: • To fill a position to replace a member on leave or on temporary secondment/re-assignment to other units within the University or as a Canada Research Chair as per Article 7.19(b)(vi). Explicit terms and conditions pertaining to full-time appointments made to replace members on sabbatical leave (Article 20.24) or on special leave that has been declared to be for the same purpose as sabbatical leave (Article 20.22) are covered by Article 7.10. • To fill a position in an experimental program or to fill a position for which there is external targeted funding, only for the duration of the external targeted funding. Such positions can be filled on a term basis for no more than six (6) years unless otherwise agreed to by the Parties. • To fill a position in response to the death, resignation, illness or disability of a member, a dramatic increase in enrollment, or some similar circumstances. Such positions can be filled on a term basis for no more than six (6) years. • To fill a position left vacant by a member appointed as an academic administrator. Such positions can be filled on a term basis for the duration of the administrative appointment. Normally, the term of a member appointed to replace an academic administrator will be for three (3) years. • To fill a position where search procedures fail to identify an applicant qualified for a probationary or continuing appointment. Appointments of this type shall not exceed twelve
Term Appointments. Term Appointments shall terminate automatically, without notification, on the date specified in the letter of appointment.
Term Appointments. Only the professional competence and service of term faculty shall be evaluated unless the term faculty member requests an evaluation of professional recognition. Term faculty shall be evaluated annually, with the unit faculty review being completed by March 15 and the department chair review completed by April 1. Term faculty shall have reasonable notice regarding their employment status for the following academic year, and, when practicable, notice shall be given no later than the final day that classes meet during the spring semester.
Term Appointments. Specified Term Appointments shall be made: (a) to replace faculty on leave; or (b) to staff instructional programs or projects which are controlled or funded outside the regular operating budget of the College; or (c) for faculty positions providing less than fifty percent (50%) annual workload. This provision shall not apply to continuous contracts which are reduced below fifty percent (50%), by application of Clause 3, reduction of staff. Subject to Clauses 3.2 and 3.3 service accumulated during term appointments shall be credited toward probationary appointments, seniority, and all other benefits for which the employee is eligible.

Term Appointments. Notwithstanding the provisions of this Article, a Member who holds a term appointment shall not receive benefits under this Article beyond the expiry date of the Member’s term of appointment.
Term Appointments. ‌ 4.10.1 In order to be considered for term appointments a faculty member must meet the hiring criteria applicable to the available position and not have received an unsuccessful evaluation as per Article 16, (Evaluation of Probationary Regular and Term Faculty Members). 4.10.2 Before any term appointment is made in a department or area, all regular faculty members who are eligible for recall as per Article 11.9, (Recall) shall be recalled. 4.10.3 Term appointments to a maximum of full-time status shall then be offered to interested part-time regular faculty members within the area concerned on the basis of seniority as defined in Article 10.1, (Definition and Calculation of Seniority). 4.10.4 Part-time regular faculty members may indicate their interest in term appointments by writing to the appropriate Xxxx or Director at least one month prior to the commencement of any appointment to which they are entitled. There shall be no entitlement to work in progress.
Term Appointments. The Employer agrees that regular appointments shall be made except that a term appointment may be made in the following circumstances: (a) to replace an individual on leave (including an individual appointed as an Academic Administrator); (b) to staff a position which is part of a new program presented by the Collegiate on an experimental basis, or the expansion or modification of an existing program on an experimental basis for no more than three (3) years: (c) in the event of death or unexpected resignation, termination or suspension of a Member; (d) a dramatic enrollment increase in one year; (e) long term illness of a Member; (f) where combining courses and/or sections to enable the making of a regular appointment is not feasible.
