Joint Appointment. A joint appointment is shared by two (2) or more Units. Financing is arranged among the Units, and approved by the respective Deans or their delegates, or the University Librarian. The allocation of responsibilities among the respective Units shall be set out in the letter of appointment. Decision-making pursuant to this Agreement shall, where appropriate, be divided according to this allocation. Procedures to be used for personnel decisions shall be agreed to in writing between the appointee and the Units concerned at the time of appointment.

Joint Appointment. 5.1.6.1 Faculty may have appointments in two or more departments. One of the departments will be designated the primary department. The primary department will be responsible for conducting the faculty member’s annual evaluation and recommending the faculty member for promotion, tenure, or termination. The other department(s) shall provide written contribution(s) to the faculty member’s annual evaluation and to recommendations for tenure, promotion, or termination. 5.1.6.2 The faculty member in a Joint appointment shall not be required to meet a higher standard than other faculty to achieve promotion and tenure. Faculty with joint appointments will have combined advising and committee assignments that are no greater than faculty with appointments in a single department. When evaluating a faculty member for tenure, promotion, or termination, evaluators shall take into account any unusual workload arising from the faculty member’s joint appointment.

A Member shall not receive a Joint Appointment without his/her consent in writing. 13.7.3 Before a Member agrees to a Joint Appointment, he/she shall meet with the Vice-President: Academic, and shall reach agreement on how the Members' work is to be shared between the Members who share the Appointment, and how the procedures used in assessing the Member for subsequent or Tenure Appointment, promotion, and salary increments are to be applied. 13.7.4 The terms and conditions of the Joint Appointment shall be in writing signed by the 2 Members and the Vice-President: Academic. Within 5 days of its signing the Vice-President: Academic shall send a copy of the agreement to the Association.

Joint Appointment. Upon recommendation by the President, the Xxxxxxx, or Xxxx, a faculty member being recommended for or holding an appointment in one unit of the University may be considered for a secondary appointment in another unit. a. In cases where an initial appointment to the University is contemplated as a joint appointment, the procedures of Article VIII Section 3 and Article IX Section 3 shall be amplified as follows: 1. The Xxxxxxx, or if the search is for a joint appointment across departments within a School, the Xxxx shall establish a Search Committee composed of members of the appropriate units. 2. In cases where a unit (department or school) has insufficient full-time faculty to be adequately represented on a joint appointment search committee, the Xxxxxxx and the Faculty Committee on Retention, Tenure and Promotion (FCRTP) shall agree on members of faculty from other units to be named to serve on the Search Committee. The recommendations of such search committees to the appropriate xxxx(s) shall confirm in writing the nature of the joint appointment being recommended . 3. Recommendations of the Search Committee shall be forwarded to the UPRCs of both units for consideration. All joint appointments require the approval of both UPRCs or those chosen to act in their place. 4. The names and supporting materials of candidates approved, as described above, shall be forwarded to the appropriate Xxxx(s). b. In cases where a member of the faculty already holding an appointment in one unit of the University is recommended for a joint appointment with another unit, the UPRC of the second unit shall be consulted and shall make a recommendation to the unit. 1. In cases where the second unit has an insufficient number of faculty to constitute a UPRC, the Xxxxxxx and the FCRTP shall agree on the composition of a committee to serve in the role of a UPRC. 2. A faculty member who already holds an appointment in a unit of the University shall not be recommended for a joint appointment with another unit without the consent of a majority of the faculty in the second unit. 3. Recommendations for a joint appointment shall be forwarded to the appropriate Xxxx(s). c.
