Laboratory Instruction. Instructors (e.g. academic members and Instructional Associates) who teach the laboratory component of a course shall receive credit according to the following scale: (1) If the lab instructor is solely responsible for organizing, instructing and assessing student performance, s/he will receive credit equivalent to one-half (1/2) the number of laboratory contact hours per week per term. (2) If the lab instructor is responsible for the overall organization and day-to-day operation of the lab, the evaluation of student performance, and s/he spends a portion of each laboratory period instructing students but receives some assistance, for example, the help of a student assistant working under the supervision of the lab instructor, the lab instructor will receive credit equivalent to one-quarter (1/4) the number of laboratory contact hours per week per term. (3) If the lab instructor is responsible for the overall organization of the lab, the evaluation of student progress and some aspects of lab instruction, but the day- to-day operation of the lab and the bulk of student instruction is handled by a professional lab assistant, normally possessing at least an undergraduate degree and/or specialized training and working with minimum supervision, the lab instructor will receive credit equivalent to one-eighth (1/8) the number of laboratory contact hours per week per term. (4) If the lab instruction is shared between the course instructor and an Instructional Associate, and the course instructor is responsible for the overall organization of the lab, the evaluation of student progress and some aspects of lab instruction, but the day-to-day operation of the lab and the bulk of student instruction is handled by the Instructional Associate, the course instructor will receive credit equivalent to one-eighth (1/8) the number of laboratory contact hours per week per term and the Instructional Associate will receive credit equivalent to three-eighths (3/8) the number of laboratory contact hours per week per term. (5) If the lab is handled solely by the lab instructor, the course instructor will receive no credit. For the purposes of this section, a lab must meet the following criteria: (a) be listed in the calendar, (b) be scheduled in the time-table at a specific time and in a single location, (c) run for a minimum of ten (10) weeks per term and (d) at least twenty percent (20%) of the student's final grade be based on work done in the lab.
