Common use of LEAD PAINT Clause in Contracts

LEAD PAINT. Housing built before 1978 may contain lead-based paint. Lead from paint, paint chips and paint dust can pose health hazards if not managed properly. Lead exposure is especially harmful to young children and pregnant women. Before renting pre-1978 housing, landlords must disclose the presence of known lead-based paint and lead-based paint hazards in the dwelling as required by U.S. Law. At the University of Connecticut, Mansfield Apartments, Northwood Apartments, and other apartments in various residence halls were constructed prior to 1978. In compliance with this act this is to inform The Resident that the University has no knowledge of the presence of lead-based paint or lead-based hazards in these apartments. Upon occupying an apartment that was constructed prior to 1978, The Resident will be able to review a pamphlet, Protect Your Family From Lead in Your Home, published by the EPA pertaining to lead-based paint hazards. Please contact Operations Center at (000) 000-0000 to obtain this pamphlet in a language other than English.
