Liner Sampling and Testing. 1.1 The contractor shall make pipe samples from every line and submit them to the MSD Project Manager for quality assurance testing. These samples shall be made according to ASTM Specifications and as directed by the MSD Project Manager. These samples shall be sent to an independent third party laboratory approved by the MSD Project Engineer. MSD shall pay for the cost of shipping and testing. The MSD Inspector shall provide direction as to which type of sample can be collected.
1.2 Main Line Sewers Less Than or Equal to 15”. In main line sewers of diameters less than or equal to 15”, a restrained sample shall be collected at the downstream manhole. The restrained sample shall be obtained as follows: • Place the pipe sample horizontally in the downstream manhole channel. • Pipe samples shall be initiated through a like diameter pipe. • The downstream pipe sample shall be held in place by a suitable heat sink, such as sand bags. The samples shall be large enough to provide a minimum of three specimens and a recommended five specimens for flexural testing or 12”x12”.
