MAINTENANCE SYSTEM PICK. 1. There shall be a Maintenance system-wide Selection of all employees of the Maintenance Seniority District once each year effective the first Monday following Thanksgiving Day of each year for the purpose of selecting a location and a job at which said employees desire to work. A similar system-wide selection shall be conducted in the event of a closing or opening of a garage and at other times as may be designated by the Agency. At least one month prior to every Maintenance System-wide Selection of work, the Agency shall post a notice at all stations announcing that a Maintenance System-wide Selection will be at some specified central location. Employees may send in written notice of their selection provided it is received at least two (2) days in advance of the date designated for such system selection. An employee may pick any job classification in which he has previously qualified which is available when it is his turn to pick. 2. STANDARDS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE MAINTENANCE SYSTEM SELECTIONS: A. Participation in the system selection: (1) Employees who have been absent due to illness or injury for thirty (30) or more calendar days and who do not have a medically determined return to work date shall be allowed to pick, however, the position picked shall remain open and available for pick by another employee. If the employee subsequently returns to work, he or she shall be placed in the job selected during the pick. The work unit and shift will then carry an extra employee until such time as normal turnover eliminates the overstaffing or until the next pick. No employee will be displaced or “bumped” as the result of the employee returning to active employment.
